“Menagerie Carousel”
This piece took me over five years to complete. My Aunt Joann
(my Mother’s older sister born in Aalen, Germany) loved
carousels and we visited a museum in Sandusky, Ohio where many
of the pictures were taken as my inspiration. Her passing put
the project aside for many years. The Mystic competition
finally motivated me to take out and finish this unique piece.
It won the “Best of Open Category” and “Best
of Show” at the competition in 2008. Later, when I told
my Mom that I thought I had it sold she said, “Well, that
should stay in the family!” Needless to say it lives with
Mom now. I was glad for the challenge and happy to see it completed.
